Overplaying/Underplaying
This problem is most common in players with poor skills. They don’t know when they are being beaten and can’t get out of the top pair. They sometimes combine this with the previous problem following the flop to allow players who draw to continue in the hand even if they haven’t placed enough bets. If you have the top pair, place a bet, and someone raises you, you cannot push all-in. In a poker game, where there are more players than usual, it is common for someone to hit something.
Placing Small Bet Sizes
Many mediocre players don’t know when they are ahead because they have difficulty reading the board and their opponents. This offense is most severe when the offender is the last to place a bet after the flip. Everyone calls, and eventually, somebody hits or hits a draw.
Neglecting Position on a Bad Board
This example is why I prefer to use the paired board. It’s more illustrative. The player with the nine calls or raises and the player who has the ace either folds or is sucked out for several more bets. All players are in hand, also known as a “family Pot,” and the flop is JJ6. If you don’t have a J, you must fold.
Amazingly, however, it’s surprising how many players will place their 6 in this scenario because no one bets. Is it possible that someone with a J will bet very little, if any, in this scenario? It is unlikely. There are many other factors, such as not seeing straight or flush draws and missing the fact there are four straight cards on the board.
