Even though I have been involved in magic for many decades, I still find magic tricks that amaze me. My uncle, who served in the Navy, did some card tricks for my brother and me. Cool tricks such as playing cards reader are still very much in my memory! Whenever I go to a local magic group meeting, there is always something I don’t understand about the cards. There are many books, DVDs, and videos online for learning card magic. Here are some tricks you can learn right away.
Cops and Robbers
This trick shows how a story can make a trick more interesting to the audience. Four jacks are shown to the audience. They begin on the roof of a department store and meet there when they are done. The four jacks are placed on top of the pile of cards. Ask the audience to open the jacks, leaving the four random cards behind. Place all the cards face down at the top of the heap. The first four cards are the random cards, not the jacks. The trick ends when the four jacks are back on top of the pile.
Mind-Reading Cards
Ask someone else to shuffle the deck well and then pass it to yourself behind your back. While holding the deck, ask a spectator to take a card from anywhere in the deck and look at it. Then, place the card on top of your deck. After a short period of concentration, turn around and name your chosen card. Turn around and face the audience after a card has been chosen behind you. This way, you will see the name on the card just by looking at it.
The Magnetic Card
Now you have chosen a card, and it is placed back in the deck. After the spectator has shuffled the deck, put the deck in your coat opening. The next step is to show magnetite attached to a string and lower it into the pocket. The magnet will hold the card in place when you pick it up. Use the method described above to place a duplicate card in a spectator’s pocket. Ask the spectator to shuffle the deck and turn it over. Then, place the deck in the right pocket of your jacket, behind the prepared card. Tell the audience that you have a psychic magnet. Then, show the audience how to hang it on the string. The magnet should be placed in the pocket along with the rope so that it touches the card. The magnet will magically find the paper when you remove the string from the pocket. Continue with the next trick.
Nine-Card Reading
In three rows, nine cards are laid face-up on the board. The hearing chooses which card to put face up on the table. Tell the audience that you are going to read their minds. The card you have chosen is announced, and you are correct. Then, your assistant points to the top center of that card and they may point to the upper right corner of the card you chose is in the upper left corner of the layout. Finally, your assistant can point to any card at random.
